More and more research is showing that Doulas can help to improve your birthing process.
A study at Chase Western Reserve University in Cleveland, OH, found that:
- while 63% of women who did not have the support of a Doula required a c-section after having their labor induced,
- just 20% of those with a Doula required one.
Other recent studies have shown:
- Women who have support from a Doula during labor are 40% less likely to require the use of forceps in delivery.
- Women who use a Doula are 60% less likely to request an epidural and 40% less likely to require synthetic oxytocin (Pitocin) to keep labor moving.
- Having the support of a Doula may reduce the length of your labor by 25%
